This section involves the aids available for around the house, starting with the bathroom.
The one item of disability aid that we managed to obtain was the humble shower seat, this allowed the independence of being able to take a shower independently, with minimal assistance. The Shower seat was also the first item that was missed whenever we went away for a holiday.
There are various forms of the shower seat, these range from a simple board to fit over a bath (we carry ours in the car when travelling), to a luxury padded seat fixed to the wall.
Shower seats which fix to the wall come in various shapes and forms, ranging from the simple lightweight model to padded seats, both corner fitting to save room and normal wall mounted. On the right is the ultimate Rolls Royce of shower seats, this is comfortably padded and yet still warm to the touch, all this and yet adjustable for height. One fairly obvious word of caution with any wall mounted aid is to ensure they are fitted by a professional if possible

All of the above shower seats are able to fold up against the wall, thus freeing up the shower area space for able bodied users as well, the alternative to this is to have a removable stool. Again shower stools come is various forms similar to the shower seats, they are available lightweight, corner fitting, padded, or foldaway.

Ok Shower seats are fine, but what do you do if your shower head is above the bath? simple, you buy a bath board. The beauty of these are that they are so portable, as I wrote earlier, we have a slotted UPVC bath board, it goes in our suitcase when we travel abroad, it is so light it is not noticable, but a boon when we get to our hotel, most of which only have the shower above the bath. Other versions are available there are bath boards which are made from tough steel and coated with plastic, there are even versions that fix to the wall and drop down over the bath when required.
